Top Tips for a Cracking Hen Weekend
If you’re the lucky maid of honour or bridesmaid, trying to plan a hen weekend for your nearest and dearest can be nothing short of stressful! There’s a lot to consider, and whether it be planning a holiday or mini-break for the lovely hen or staying closer to home – the pressure is on to make sure the whole thing is fun, runs smoothly and doesn’t put everyone too much out of pocket.
Here at The Manor House, we have seen it all and consider ourselves experts in “the hen weekend”. So sit tight and listen to our top tips for planning the ultimate knees up for all the girls – avoiding any unnecessary stress.
Fancy dress ideas
A common staple of the hen party is of course, fancy dress. Whether the bride-to-be prefers a classic ‘theme’ or wants a full-blown costume bonanza, it’s important to get the mood right. Most hens will be more than happy to tell you what vibe they prefer, so be sure to ask them to make sure. But we can certainly offer you some hints and tips of our favourite fancy dress ideas to make the decision that little bit easier.
Some of you will have a great night in 80’s fancy dress, whilst others enjoy making themselves sparkle for a festival-feel night. We love seeing groups of girls dolled up in burlesque outfits, and similarly it’s always fun to go as a group of schoolgirls, pirates or even cavegirls! Why not match the theme to the Manor House surroundings of Cornwall and dress up Baywatch style? Whatever you choose, we will make you feel at home here and you are bound to cause a scene if you opt for a night out in nearby Newquay! Get ready, ladies!
The hen weekend should always centre around a fun activity for all the girls to get involved in, it acts like a great team building exercise (don’t forget that some of the girls on the weekend may not have met beforehand, so an icebreaker can be good before you all head out on the town together).
At The Manor House we offer a range of activities to ensure everyone is having the time of their life, whilst also taking advantage of the stunning location of Cornwall. Choose from a whole host of options, including surfing, kayaking, cycling, stand-up paddleboarding and climbing, and wind down after the fun exercise with massage or a moment in our spa pool all right here conveniently where you are staying.
Here’s where the weekend gets really fun, the big night out! If you’re staying with us, we have plenty of options to accommodate you. Choose from a huge night out in Newquay – a firm favourite of hen and stag do’s for decades – or perhaps you’d like to keep it a bit more low key with a night out in Padstow. Choose to dine at one of the towns many high quality restaurants and bars, or if you opt to go to Newquay dress it up however you fancy and dance the night away!
We can offer you a personalized chauffer service to and from each location so you have nothing to worry about except enjoying yourselves – and of course what you’re going to wear!
Wind down time
When you’re not partying or living it up activity-wise on the Cornish coast, it’s important to have some down time to give your hen and yourself some time to relax and feel calm and collected. We’ve got exactly the thing for you, with our very own spa centre on offer here at The Manor House. Treat yourselves to some rest and relaxation without having to stray far from your bed, and indulge in massage or reflexology – maybe with a glass of bubbly.
If a spa day isn’t your thing, why not opt for a relaxing bike ride along the nearby camel trail to Padstow, or even cycle to Cornwall’s very own award-winning Camel Valley vineyard for a spot of wine tasting! Relax and enjoy a beautiful view of the estuary whilst you sample wine and champagne all made here in Cornwall, and which have been served to the likes of the Queen. You girls deserve it, so treat yourselves.
